ATV Racing

Racing an all terrain vehicle is a rush of insanity.   Offroad or at the track, there is nothing like the freedom you feel as you tear the dirt up on a four wheeler.  Interest in competitive atv racing is at an all time high.  You can catch the action on ESPN, or if you are more adventurous, you just throw the quad runner into the back of your truck and head for the wilderness.

These vehicles can burn it up on the beach, the woods, on a dirt road or a mountainside.   Under the control of a skilled rider they can rip wheelies or leap into the air and land smoothly. 

Learning to race an ATV starts with riding one.    Precautions are essential, a bad bounce and you can crack your skull.  To cover your self you need some riding gear.  A racing helmet, or at least a solid helmet is essential.   Leathers are a must, ideally with kevlar reinforced joints for maximum protection.  

Major manufacturers of the atv (all terrain vehicle) are Polaris and Yamaha, although their are other competitors, its good to stick with a major brand that you know will provide support in the form of a supply of replacement parts, new models, and top notch equipment design.   Your ATV should have the right tires for racing, if you are serious about your adventuring.   Traction keeps you from doing the big crash and burn, which can be a serious buzzkill.   The four runner will probably handle and encounters with the ground better than you will, be prepared.

If you are doing a long run out in the wilderness, bring some friends.   This is the most basic of common sense.   If you are alone and anything happens, you need backup.  Gotta have your crew there.   Besides, its a lot more fun to show off for your buddies than to ride solo.   If you are into racing, it is essential that you have someone to practice against.    When you hit that track you have to know how to maneuver in traffic.

Ya, its a dangerous sport.   Follow the manufacturers guidelines for rider age, and if you have a family member thats into the sport make sure you get them the gear that will keep them in control and give them the confidence of being safe.
